Elephants give alms to monks on Thai Elephant Day
The Thai Elephant Conservation Center in Lampang holds special activities on the National Elephant Day today, in which nine elephants joined mahouts, giving alms to monks.
Director of the National Elephant Institute, Pobphapob Lappharat, mahouts and public members attended the morning alms at the center in Hang Chat district on this auspicious occasion.
A blessing ceremony was performed for elephants while other activities were held to raise awareness on elephant conservation.
Both local people and tourists attended the event. A fruit feast was arranged for the jumbos and there was a contest of elephant food booth decoration. However, elephant shows and elephant rides for visitors are suspended to let elephant rest for one day.
