Asian Elephant Recorded Puffing Away At Object. Scientists Say It May Be For Medicinal Purposes

Never before has an elephant been documented smoking, but smoking what exactly ?

Even Though the footage is two years old, Biologists claim they have never witnessed such behaviour before.

The forty-eight second clip shows an elephant picking an object up and placing it in it's mouth and exhaling a cloud of smoke.

A scientists by the name of Vinay Kumar who represents the Wildlife Conservation Society's stated that the behaviour has never been witnessed. It has biologists baffled and confused. Even though the footage is a couple years old it has recently called for massive attention.

Reports go as far as analyzing charcoal just to attach some sort of explanation for such behaviour. Again, this has scientists dazzled and baffled. With very little to go on charcoal seems to be a start to figuring out this puzzle.

According to the article, Vinay Kumar stated that charcoal has some toxin-binding properties that could benefit certain animals.
